The six villages that make up the area known as the Glenkens are all unique with qualities which are rare to find in this modern age.
With histories reaching back over hundreds of years they remain for most part untouched time capsules to a much simpler rural past. They also tell the story of more turbulant times when the Covenanters were hunted, persecuted and executed for their beliefs, their memorials still to be seen today in the many ancient church yards throughout the area.
The rows of white painted Galloway cottages and wide streets give the visitor a glimpse of what life was like in the past and how vibrant these small villages and hamlets remain today.
Each one of the Glenkens villages has something of interest to the visitor with St Johns Town of Dalry and New Galloway offering quality accommodation to allow the visitor time to fully explore this magical and unspoilt area.
